Diversity
“The interaction of disparate cultures, the vehemence of the ideals that led the immigrants here, the opportunity offered by a new life, all gave America a flavor and a character that make it as unmistakable and as remarkable to people today as it was to Alexis de Tocqueville in the early part of the nineteenth century.”
― A Nation of Immigrants
Equity
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."
― Martin Luther King, Jr.
Inclusion
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free
― Emma Lazarus
Science thrives in a free, open, and just society, in which the diversity of cultures and experiences is nurtured and celebrated. It is a deeply humanistic endeavor, that requires a foundation of equity, which allows ideas to be judged and tested on the basis of merit, not on the capricious hierarchies of race or class. It is vital that scientists foster an environment of inclusion, such that the labor and the benefits of our work are open and accessible to all.
