Dr. Tung's Earth System Science Data Lab
In the Earth System Science Data Lab we conduct research that requires deep analysis of big datasets that target environmental and societal impacts, and use leading-edge computational environments. At any given time, we may be working on components of a data-science project that consists of large-data ingestion into a distributed file system and parallel computing engine to carry out data transformation, the iterative process of knowledge-forming visualization and modeling, and the assessment of the results for meaningful conclusions and communication. The full data-driven solutions of problems at the nexus of natural and human systems must incorporate advances in computing and statistics, combined with a wide range of domain-specific knowledge. In doing so, we value highly and therefore incorporate scientific collaboration, education, and consortium-building locally and internationally. The progress at times can be slow, but ultimately fulfilling. We invite you to join us.
